Abel on Analysis. Translations by Philip Horowitz of Niels Abel's principal works on the theory of functions, which astonished the elderly Legendre and stimulated Jacobi to his finest efforts. The main themes are integrals of algebraic functions and the theory of elliptic functions. Sadly, Abel died in his twenties and the great rivalry with Jacobi ended prematurely. Jacobi's correspondence with Legendre concerning the new developments is included in the book. Approximate publication date: January 2007.
Selected works of Jean-Pierre Kahane. Professor Kahane is one of the leading analysts of the second half of the twentieth century. Central themes of his work are Fourier analysis and Brownian motion. His eightieth birthday is in December 2006; he is still writing research papers. This book offers 63 of his most original papers, including collaborations with Hartman, Helson, Katznelson, Mandelbrojt, Rudin and Ryll-Nardzewski, among others. Approximate publication date: January 2007.
Leonhard Euler. Ruediger Thiele. Translated from the German by R.C. Baker. There are surprisingly few full-length books about the great Swiss mathematician Euler. He dominated the mathematical scene during a large part of the eighteenth century, working on every part of the subject and its applications. Many of his innovations were hugely influential, from function theory to graph theory to number theory. The present biography is very well researched, quite detailed and very readable. The author has added some updates and minor improvements for this translation of the 1982 edition from B. G. Teubner. Approximate publication date: March 2007. Continue...
